Om Jai Jagdish Hare Aarti

This aarti is credited to Shardha Ram Phillauri, written around 1870, and is sung in homes and temples across India.

The words vary a little between printed versions. This page gives one widely used version.

Refrain

ॐ जय जगदीश हरे, स्वामी ! जय जगदीश हरे।भक्त जनों के संकट, क्षण में दूर करे॥

Meaning: Glory to you, Lord of the universe. You remove your devotees' troubles in an instant.

Verse 1

जो ध्यावे फल पावे, दुःख विनसे मन का।स्वामी दुःख विनसे मन का।सुख सम्पत्ति घर आवे, कष्ट मिटे तन का॥ॐ जय जगदीश हरे।

Meaning: Whoever meditates on you receives the reward, and the sorrows of the mind vanish. Comfort and wealth come to the home, and the body's ailments depart.

Verse 2

मात-पिता तुम मेरे, शरण गहूँ मैं किसकी।स्वामी शरण गहूँ मैं किसकी।तुम बिन और न दूजा, आस करूँ जिसकी॥ॐ जय जगदीश हरे।

Meaning: You are my mother and father. In whose shelter should I take refuge? Without you there is no one else I could hope in.

Verse 3

तुम पूरण परमात्मा, तुम अन्तर्यामी।स्वामी तुम अन्तर्यामी।पारब्रह्म परमेश्वर, तुम सबके स्वामी॥ॐ जय जगदीश हरे।

Meaning: You are the complete Supreme Soul, the inner witness of all. You are the highest Brahman, the Supreme Lord and master of all.

Verse 4

तुम करुणा के सागर, तुम पालन-कर्ता।स्वामी तुम पालन-कर्ता।मैं मूरख खल कामी, कृपा करो भर्ता॥ॐ जय जगदीश हरे।

Meaning: You are an ocean of compassion and the sustainer. I am foolish, wicked and caught in desires. Be gracious to me, Lord.

Verse 5

तुम हो एक अगोचर, सबके प्राणपति।स्वामी सबके प्राणपति।किस विधि मिलूँ दयामय, तुमको मैं कुमति॥ॐ जय जगदीश हरे।

Meaning: You are one, beyond the reach of the senses, and lord of every life. Merciful one, how can I, so dull of mind, meet you?

Verse 6

दीनबन्धु दुखहर्ता, तुम ठाकुर मेरे।स्वामी तुम ठाकुर मेरे।अपने हाथ उठाओ, द्वार पड़ा तेरे॥ॐ जय जगदीश हरे।

Meaning: Friend of the helpless, remover of sorrow, you are my master. Reach out your hand; I lie at your door.

Verse 7

विषय-विकार मिटाओ, पाप हरो देवा।स्वामी पाप हरो देवा।श्रद्धा-भक्ति बढ़ाओ, सन्तन की सेवा॥ॐ जय जगदीश हरे।

Meaning: Remove my worldly attachments and faults and take away my sins, O Lord. Increase my faith and devotion, and let me serve the saints.

Verse 8

श्री जगदीशजी की आरती, जो कोई नर गावे।स्वामी जो कोई नर गावे।कहत शिवानन्द स्वामी, सुख संपत्ति पावे॥ॐ जय जगदीश हरे।

Meaning: Whoever sings this aarti of Lord Jagdish finds happiness and prosperity. (In this version the last verse names Shivanand Swami.)
