Baby Name Letter by Date of Birth

Enter the date and time of birth. We calculate where the Moon was, then show the Nakshatra, Pada, Rashi and the starting sounds used for naming.

India is 5.5. Change it only if the birth was outside India.

How the calculation works

The Moon's position is calculated from astronomical formulas, then shifted by the Lahiri ayanamsa to give the sidereal longitude used in Vedic astrology. The zodiac splits into 27 Nakshatras of 13°20′, each with four Padas of 3°20′. The Pada the Moon was in decides the first sound of the name.

We checked the method against a published panchang. For 3 October 2026 it matches the moment the Moon enters Ardra to the minute.

Things to know

  • Use the exact time on the birth record. A Pada lasts only about 6 to 7 hours, so a few hours' error can change the sound.
  • Sound spellings differ between regions and printed panchangs. Treat them as a guide.
  • This is a cultural naming tradition, not a scientific prediction.
